How should the various evaluation criteria be understood?

For easier orientation, the evaluations for the categories Potential, Degree of maturity and Competence take one of four ratings – low, moderate, high or very high. The ratings have the following meanings:

Potential:

  • Low: Future innovations and developments are conceivable for this trend, but they are not yet identifiable for the chosen focus.
  • Moderate: The trend offers recognisable potential. Early developments can be observed in the focused company division or product line.
  • High: The trend is establishing itself. The future potential can be assessed as positive for the selected focus, as promising developments can be expected.
  • Very high: The trend offers very high potential for the future. The trend’s application possibilities and technologies could have a very large influence on the focused company division or product line.

Degree of maturity:

  • Low: Technologies and applications for the trend are still in the research or development stage. Areas of use are conceivable but still seem far off.
  • Moderate: The first products and services are being launched and are already being bought and tested by early adopters as well as by some companies and consumers. A good time to enter for smart followers.
  • High: The market for the trend’s applications and products is establishing itself. The target group and client base are growing.
  • Very high: Applications for the trend can be implemented directly and perform very well. The trend is widely adopted and has gone past the tipping point.

Competence:

  • Low: The company has not yet worked on the trend at all.
  • Moderate: The company deals with the trend purely at the knowledge level.
  • High: First projects or measures based on the trend are in the planning stage.
  • Very high: The trend can already be found in concrete prototypes, services or processes.
